West Lafayette business scene continues to boom: Heavenly Sweets opens in Brickstone

WEST LAFAYETTE − A Coshocton bakery that opened in November has recently expanded, with plans to keep growing.

Heavenly Sweet Bakery, 702 S. Seventh St., opened a satellite location on Monday in the Brickstone Building at 100 W. Main St., West Lafayette. Owners Deric and Jan Potts, who also operate the Juanita Potts Family Home, said opening another shop in Mount Vernon is in talks.

Baked goods will be made at the Coshocton shop and then taken to the West Lafayette store daily. This includes a variety of doughnuts, apple fritters, croissants, cinnamon rolls, cheesecakes and more. Lunch sandwiches are being added soon. Coffee drinks are by the Double Shot Espresso Company of Zanesville. There are two employees at the West Lafayette outlet with support from the Coshocton shop.

Jan said they had several customers from West Lafayette asking them to open a second location in the village. The Brickstone proved to be an ideal location, she said. It's in the portion that used to be a bank and the vault has been turned into a dining spot with a television. There are pictures and history of the building on the wall as you walk in.

"People were coming in and saying, 'hey, we need somewhere for a good cup of coffee and a doughnut,'" Jan said. "We had a lot of people get on our (Facebook) page say 'we can't wait until you open.'"

Deric is from West Lafayette originally and Jan said they're already contributing to the community by donating to the schools and want to do more moving forward.

"If we can donate for something, we do," she said.

A ribbon cutting was held recently at the new Heavenly Sweets Bakery outlet in West Lafayette in the Brickstone Building. Participating are building owners Ed and Susan Myers, Amy Crown of the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce, employee Samantha Hamilton, owners Jan and Deric Potts, employee Amanda Priest and Oren Griffith of the West Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

They're on a fast-rising corner as the Brickstone has its other storefronts full with other businesses in buildings behind it, including the French Press Café that opened earlier this year.

"It's a very busy intersection. Each business has their own personality and something different. There's enough business for everybody," Jan said.
