Wellfleet fire at trailer park displaces four people. The Red Cross is lending a hand.

Four people are being given shelter tonight after a fire this morning damaged their mobile home at the Massasoit Hills Trailer Park on West Road in Wellfleet, Fire Chief Richard J. Pauley said.

The department received the 911 call about a shed fire that had spread to another shed and a mobile home around 8:45 a.m., the chief said in a departmental press release.

Eastham Fire Capt. Charlie Frazier was nearby and arrived on the scene about a minute after the alarm went out, according to the release. Two sheds were engulfed in flames and fire was spreading to a trailer and woods.

The department called in mutual aid from Eastham, Truro, Chatham, Orleans and Harwich. A Wellfleet truck and one from Eastham had pre-connected hose lines which crews used to put out the shed fires and attack flames on the mobile home.

Firefighters managed to put out the flames before they moved inside the trailer, but to make sure the fire hadn't spread to interiors crews had to open one end of the home, Pauley said. Because the neighborhood isn't served by hydrants tankers from Wellfleet and Truro had to shuttle water to the scene. Wellfleet police officers lent a hand at the trailer park.

The fire was declared under control at 9:37 a.m. but the trailer was declared uninhabitable, the chief said. The American Red Cross stepped in to provide a temporary place to stay and living expenses.

Chief Pauley praised Capt. Frazier for his quick action and credited the mutual aid system in limiting the damage.

The chief said the fire was accidental. There were no reported injuries. Crews cleared the scene around 11:40 a.m, the chief's release said.
