Well-known sports betting companies have licenses ahead of NC launch

RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Eight sports betting companies are signed on to operate in North Carolina ahead of the upcoming launch.

The North Carolina State Lottery Commission said on Thursday they interactive sports wagering operator licenses. They include FanDuel, DraftKings, and ESPNBet, as well a group represented by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.

What to expect as sports betting begins in North Carolina

Legal sports betting in North Carolina is slated to begin on March 11.

The first seven companies receiving licenses are:

  • Betfair Interactive US, LLC (dba: FanDuel Sportsbook)

  • BETMGM, LLC.

  • Crown NC Gaming, LLC (dba: DraftKings)

  • FBG Enterprises Opco, LLC (dba: Fanatics Sportsbook)

  • Hillside (North Carolina), LLC (dba: bet365)

  • Penn Sports Interactive, LLC (dba: ESPN BET)

  • Underdog Sports Wagering LLC

  • Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise

“Issuing the first interactive sports wagering operator licenses today represents a major milestone in establishing legal sports betting in North Carolina,” said Ripley Rand, Lottery Commission chair. “We’re just 11 days away from the start of sports betting in North Carolina and we will be working every day between now and then to see that our launch is a successful one.”

The ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament begins March 12, with the NCAA Tournament taking place a week later.

North Carolinians can begin preparing for the first day of betting by registering with one of the companies, setting up accounts, and making deposits as of noon on March 1.

Overall, the Commission has received nine applications for interactive sports wagering operator licenses. The Commission expects to approve additional licenses in the near future.
