An official notice was given to the owner of the Welch Apartments in Muscatine to stabilize the building and reopen the street in front of it.

Muscatine apartment building evacuated as safety measure

Assistant Community Development Director Andrew Fangman reported to the Muscatine City Council that the owners of the apartments have 60 days to secure the building. The City of Muscatine plans to have 3rd St., which is just outside of the building, reopened by March 13, and a plan for repair work has already been received by the City.

The Welch Apartments were declared unsafe in August 2023, and earlier this month police arrested someone within the apartments.
