Weekend Break: Fill My Jar in Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — A small business owner and her team helped people get ready for the Easter holiday.

They’re serving up sweet treats and homemade candies right in Brookfield.

The store is located along Prarie Avenue in downtown Brookfield.

“I consider myself sort of an old-fashioned candy store,” Annette Pardun, the owner of Fill My Jar said.

It’s a business built on a labor of love and the idea that good food has the power to bring people together.

It started from scratch within the walls of Pardn’s home and evolved into something much sweeter.

“Candies bring smiles to your face, so this is not meant to be stressful,” Pardun said.

The team is stirring up everything from toffee to caramels and unique barks.

Their custom-made candy line right now features 12 different flavors but they offer much more than that.

“We have really fun themed charcuterie candy boards that you can bring as a hostess gift or have at home on your candy table,” Pardun said.

Pardun said they’re perfect for a day like Easter.

While the store isn’t typically open Sunday or Monday, they opened their doors to help with last-minute needs, like baskets and other items.

“We just love having people in the store,” Pardun said.

You’ll notice the store’s name Fill My Jar and wonder where the concept came from.

Initially, Pardun thought the jars just looked nice and were a fun way to pack the candies. But she quickly found it kept things fresher and more practical.

“To me, that’s a reusable source that can keep moving forward,” Pardun said. “So, we even make our labels reusable like a window cling-on.”

With careful consideration to the packaging and the products, she said their candy line is mostly gluten-free and they also carry sugar and nut-free items.
