Week 12 NFL Superlatives: Tony Romo - great announcer, terrible dancer

We’ve introduced a new feature: weekly NFL superlatives. It’s meant to be a lighthearted look at on- and off-field events from Sunday’s games, from worst dancer to best dressed and one player who bailed when he realized he didn’t know how to do the electric slide:

Least Likely to be on “Dancing with the Stars”: Tony Romo, CBS

Over the years, we’ve seen professional athletes have a lot of success on “Dancing with the Stars,” and word is ABC is doing a mini-season next year featuring only athletes. But our bet is Romo won’t be one of them. Actress and singer Teyana Taylor posted this video to her Instagram; she and Romo were apparently filming a Google commercial together.

Most Loved Senior: Phil Dawson, Arizona Cardinals

Dawson, the second-oldest player in the NFL this season at 42 (only fellow kicker Adam Vinatieri is longer in the tooth), has been in the league for 19 years and kicked the longest field goal of that time on Sunday, a 57-yard game-winner against the Jacksonville Jaguars that snapped a two-game losing streak for the Cardinals. Dawson was perfect on the day, hitting kicks of 34, 42 and 48 yards before his last-second heroics.

Best Premature Celebration: Philadelphia Eagles

No team has embraced the loosened rules on celebrating like the Eagles. And on Sunday, they were ready. Not only did they have the bowling celebration to celebrate a touchdown against the Bears, they also broke out the Electric Slide after an interception – except that pick, by Rasul Douglas, was nullified, meaning the celebration was a bit premature.

Party Pooper: Najee Goode, Philadelphia

While most of his teammates were having a ball doing the Electric Slide, Goode got a couple of steps in, messed up, realized he wasn’t as sure of himself as everyone else and walked off. Najee, may we suggest you crash the first wedding you come across and learn the slide.

Worst Field Trip: Chicago Bears

It wasn’t enough that the Bears were embarrassed in Philadelphia – they managed just eight first downs and 140 yards of offense, while allowing the Eagles 420 yards of offense – they couldn’t even make a hasty exit out of town. According to NBC Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn, their plane broke down on the tarmac and they had to wait for another aircraft to get them back to Chicago.

Best Dressed: Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo

The Bills’ quarterback regained his starting spot, got Buffalo back in the win column, and reclaimed his title as the NFL’s best-dressed player. For the Bills’ trip to Kansas City, Taylor donned a slim cut, charcoal-gray three piece suit, polka-dotted tie, and even added a black hat. It might be time for other players to step up their sartorial game.

Best Gamer: Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons

It’s hard to say Jones is the GOAT at receiver – Jerry Rice would certainly beg to differ – but when it comes to big games, Jones has no equal. Against the Buccaneers, he had 12 catches for 253 yards and two touchdowns, his third career game with 250 or more receiving yards. No other player has more than one. Jones averages well over 1,200 yards per season, and at that pace, he’ll shoot up the NFL all-time lists quickly.

Best Class Reunion: Josh McCown, New York Jets, and Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers

There are just three players from the NFL draft class of 2002 who are still active: Dwight Freeney, McCown and Peppers. And in Week 12, McCown and Peppers were on the same field, with Peppers’ Panthers winning the day. The two were even teammates with the Bears from 2011-13. On Sunday, Peppers had three tackles plus sacked his former teammate, while McCown threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns.
