A wedding guest has been ordered to repay stolen money after scamming 19 people out of thousands.

According to the BBC, Natalie Green, 41, was given thousands of pounds to book travel and accommodations for other wedding guests to attend a friend’s nuptials in Thailand.

However, the scam was unveiled before the 2022 wedding of Elaine and Marc Walker of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Elaine’s mother then reportedly ended up paying around £11,000 for the guests who had their money stolen from them to travel to Thailand for the wedding.

Per the outlet, Green was given a two-year supervision order by Peterhead Sheriff Court. Having already repaid £1650, she was also ordered to pay back the remaining £5,697 due in compensation.

PEOPLE has contacted the Peterhead Sheriff Court for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

Elaine recalled finding out about the scam when her bridesmaid called her crying.

“I couldn’t make out what she was saying because she was hysterically crying,” she told the BBC. “My other friend Chevonne then said, 'Natalie has taken all the money and we have not been able to get anything booked.' I was just absolutely gobsmacked."

Meanwhile, Chevonne Millar, who had been a friend of Green for almost 10 years, told the outlet, "The arrangements started in 2021, so we all had time to save up money and put towards flights and accommodation.”

"There were three of us who were single and traveling alone, so Natalie said, 'I am a student, you guys all work full time, I will help organize flights and accommodation, then you are only paying one person,’ ” she added. "So we just started paying in installments, bank transfers. The first was about £800 for the flights.”

According to the BBC, Green admitted to her fraudulent activities after receiving payments of £7,547 between January 2021 and August 2022.

Green was reportedly “remorseful and embarrassed” about her actions, the outlet reports, adding that her lawyer revealed that she was in debt and suffering from health challenges.
