Webster Enterprises expands above Plaza Café Downtown

Nov. 27—Webster Enterprises put the finishing touches on its latest expansion of gallery space above Plaza Café Downtown and Sunwest on the Plaza.

The three new rooms take Webster Enterprises across the stairs and hallway from its existing space, and the expansion creates dedicated office and conference room space for the first time since Chris Webster sold his real estate business to Sotheby's International Realty in 1998.

Webster started above Plaza Café in 1972 with one room, about 300 square feet.

"We just signed a long-term lease. For 50 years," Webster said. "Until now, it was just a handshake."

Webster now has 12 rooms and about 2,500 square feet, all evoking a Mexican colonial hacienda feel.

"We have all but two small rooms upstairs now," son Christopher Webster said.

Webster Enterprises offers a variety of services. "We bring together art and real estate at the confluence of the ancient and contemporary" with the "most unique pieces in clothing, art, furniture, jewelry and accessories," father and son said.

The Webster Enterprises space has also become a retail venue since the start of the pandemic, especially with eclectic clothing.

Until now, Webster Enterprises "improvised galleries in an office," Christopher Webster said.

Now the office and conference room are separate from the galleries — but art still fills those rooms.
