Webb City woman sentenced for role in Michael Hall kidnapping & murder

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Webb City woman will spend the next two decades in prison for her role in a 2020 kidnapping and murder.

Thursday morning, a judge sentenced Amy Kay Thomas, 40, to 20 years for kidnapping — and 10 years for unlawful transport of a firearm. Those sentences will run together so Thomas will spend a maximum of 20 years in prison.

She pleaded guilty in April of last year. As part of the plea deal another charge of kidnapping and murder were dropped against her.

Thomas is one of six people convicted in the July, 2020 kidnapping and murder of Michael Hall, of Carthage. His body was found partially burned and decomposed on a property southwest of Joplin.

Thomas admitted to repeatedly cutting Hall with a knife while he was handcuffed and duct-taped and while others also tortured him, before one of them shot and killed him.
