Next-Gen Corvette Z06 Could Adopt ‘Z07′ Moniker, Twin-Turbo V8

Z06 or not to Z06? That is the question. Well, if recent rumblings out of Car and Driver are any indication, the sub-ZR1 Corvette will not wear the Z06 badge, but will rather be dubbed the new and improved Z07.

Upping the ante from the previous ‘Vette, the Corvette Z07 will sport a twin-turbo V8 with somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower. A significant boost from the 455-hp currently found on the base Corvette.

While 600 ponies under the hood does sound promising, rumor has it that the same 6.2-liter V8 won’t be present, but rather, something “significantly less than 6.2-liters” (rumor has it somewhere in the market of 4.5-liters). Ditching the ‘bigger is better’ motto embraced by the SRT Viper, Chevy is hoping that the twin-turbo powerplant will allow them to drop displacement in the name of pressing fuel economy standards.

Price for lucky number Z07 is expected to be just around $100K. A $24,400 increase from the current Z06, which makes one cringe when thinking of the price of a next-gen ZR1. No official word yet on just when/if these rumors will come into fruition, but expect more details closer to next year’s Detroit Auto Show, if not sooner.
