Weather forces delay in opening of I-30 frontage road bridge

Apr. 10—Weather permitting, a partial opening of the westbound Interstate 30 frontage road bridge was supposed to begin Wednesday evening — providing I-30 users crossing the Lake Ray Hubbard bridge in and out of Dallas County a little more leg room.

The weather, however, wasn't permitting — causing the Texas Department of Transportation to cancel that planned opening. No new opening date has been released.

Once the bridge opens, there will be a traffic shift on Dalrock Road at the I-30 intersection through this summer:

— Southbound Dalrock Road traffic will continue to westbound I-30.

— For southbound Dalrock Road needing to access eastbound I-30, detour to Sunset Drive then turn left at Bayside Drive and continue south over the Sapphire Bay Bridge to turn left onto the eastbound I-30 frontage road.

— Westbound I-30 traffic going to northbound Dalrock Road will temporarily detour to Bayside Drive.

As crews work on the final phases of this project, drivers are urged to plan ahead for extra travel time.

As progress continues, check drivetexas.org for daily lane closures. Any major scheduled closures will be announced in advance and there is an option to sign up for text alerts.

As a part of the $142 million I-30 corridor expansion project, new frontage road bridges will be constructed across Lake Ray Hubbard from Bass Pro Drive to Dalrock Road. Additionally, the Dalrock Road interchange will be rebuilt. Future projects will widen I-30 and add continuous frontage roads throughout Rockwall County. The work is part of TxDOT's Texas Clear Lanes effort to relieve congestion in major metropolitan areas.
