Weather delays start of BBQ and Blues Festival this weekend

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — The brisket, chicken and ribs will have to wait 24 hours before they hit the BBQ and Blues grills because of strong storms predicted to move through the area.

“It’s just going to allow us to push it off by a day and not have to reschedule it completely,” South Baldwin Chamber Foundation Executive Director Kylee Raulerson said.

Crews have already begun setting up in Heritage Park for the two-day festival that will host at least 30 teams from around the area.

“We thought it would be best for everybody since they were already planning for the weekend to go ahead and put it off by the day, and it seems to work for most,” Raulerson said.

The event kick-off will now start at 5 o’clock on Saturday. Teams will cook through the night and then gates will open to the public at 10 a.m. Sunday for the festival and competition.

“$10 to enter, so it’s not that expensive, and you get to taste all of the BBQ, and you get to shop with our vendors,” Raulerson said. “We have a free kids zone, and it’s just a great family event.”

All proceeds go to the Chamber Foundation to support 14 local schools in South Baldwin County.
