Weather conditions, speed cited in Tuesday's four-vehicle crash near Charlevoix

CHARLEVOIX — Weather and speed are suspected factors in a four-vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon on M-66 near Stover Road in Charlevoix County.

According to the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office, the accident took place at 4:58 p.m. when a Ford pickup truck, driven by Spencer Ross, 35, of Charlevoix, collided into the rear of a Ford Focus being driven by Bryan Best, 39, of Ellsworth. The Ford Focus then struck a BMW being driven by Anthony England, 82, also of Ellsworth. That impact then caused the BMW to veer across the center line and hit a Jeep Cherokee being driven by Debra Vancour, 65, of Charlevoix.

Two individuals were assessed by Lake Charlevoix EMS Authority after the accident but declined further medical assistance.

The investigation cites weather conditions and excessive speed as potential contributing factors in the crash.
