Tracking weather aware conditions for May 9

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Tornado WATCH through 5 PM EDT/4 PM CDT

Tracking multiple rounds of rain and storms today through early Friday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire News 3 viewing area with damaging winds, hail, and a brief tornado.

Round 1 (10 AM-4 PM): A few isolated showers and storms will develop ahead of the main line of storms; these will need to be watched closely but should stay below severe limits.

A line of rain and storms will continue to push out of north Alabama and north Georgia with damaging winds, large hail and a brief tornado. This line of rain and storms will begin to exit the region shortly after the evening commute.

Round 2 (Midnight-7 AM): A few isolated showers or storms will be possible around midnight through 1 AM. A robust MCS or complex of rain and storms will quickly move out of Mississippi and western Alabama into east Alabama by 3 AM or 2 AM central and exiting from west to east by 7 AM. This line will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, and a brief tornado.
