WEATHER AWARE: Strong storms and heavy rain for Monday

Columbus, Ga (WRBL)- Tracking a few showers and storms for the start of your week, but storms will continue to build in coverage. We are WEATHER AWARE as a line of strong to severe storms and heavy rain continues to move in.

This system will bring the potential for heavy rain and localized flash flooding (primarily Columbus southward). Rainfall totals for today alone range from 2-4 inches. A flood watch is already in effect for Clay, Quitman, and Randolph counties through tomorrow evening.

There will also be a risk for damaging wind gusts up to 60mph. The tornado threat is low, but it is not zero. This first round is expected to clear by this evening (6PM).

A secondary round will likely move through overnight. This will bring another round of severe weather. This second round will clear by your Tuesday morning commute.

After a break from the storms for Wednesday through Thursday, the rain will move back in at the end of the week. Storms and heavy rain will be possible again Friday and will last through the end of the weekend. There is a chance that these storms at the end of the week could also be strong to severe.
