Weather Authority takes part in Read Across America Week

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Schools nationwide participating in Read Across America Week, including schools throughout the Tennessee Valley.

The National Education Association launched Read Across America Week in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading.

This year, the event goes from March 2-6 with many schools inviting guests in to read to their students.

News 19 Meteorologist Jessica had the opportunity to visit East Lawrence and Hazel Green Elementary to read to their students.

Hazel Green Visit:

Meteorologist Jessica Camuto traveled to Hazel Green Monday afternoon for her first Read Across America event.

Jessica visited with third-grade students and spoke to them about what she does as a broadcast meteorologist. After they learned a little about her daily routine, she then talked about the importance of weather safety!

Weather Authority visits East Lawrence Elementary

Jessica read the students the weather-related children’s book ‘The Meteorologist In Me.’

She will be reading to another group of third graders Thursday afternoon.

Monrovia Visit:

Jessica traveled to Monrovia Elementary School to participate in its Read Across America Event.

While at the school, she read to a first and second-grade class. Before reading to each class she told them her duties as a broadcast meteorologist.

She read the books ‘Oh Say Can You Say What’s The Weather Today’ and ‘The Meteorologist In Me’. Once she finished reading students had the opportunity to ask any weather questions they had!
