Wayne County to receive grant funding for primary election

KEY ACTION Authorized a grant application and primary 2022 funding agreement with the Ohio Secretary of State and the Wayne County Board of Elections.

DISCUSSION Under Senate Bill 9, Ohio’s elections boards have been granted another $9 million. Wayne County’s elections board is being granted $79,363 to be used by Aug. 1. Any unused funds would need to be returned by Aug. 5.

Elections Director Julie Leathers Stahl told commissioners the funds are to be used for administrative costs such as staff overtime, costs associated with hiring and training of temporary staff, poll worker recruitment and training, and the improvement of processes.

The funds can also be used to pay vendor expenses and ballot production, specifically the expediting of printing ballots related to the 2022 primary.

Stahl also said an additional $1,917 is being made available through Senate Bill 11 to help expedite the transmission of the ballots of uniformed and overseas absentee voters. The money will be used to pre-pay the postage for such ballots.

OTHER ACTION

  • Approved a number of housekeeping items including bills, appropriations transfers, personnel changes, travel and training expenses, organizational membership approval, and special event expenses.

  • Approved an application for Ohio Public Works Commission Grant under the Clean Ohio Fund-Green Space Conservation Program for the Barnes Preserve.

  • Approved the application of OneEighty (formerly Liverty Center Connections/Every Woman’s House) to receive shelter assistance funds.

  • Passed bid advertisement authorization for renovation of the Wayne County Airport’s tarmac.

  • Authorized bid advertisement for acquisition of snow removal equipment for the Wayne County Airport.
