Waverly grad Hammond earns America East honor for UAlbany

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Waverly grad Wendi Hammond has earned another accolade.

Waverly grad Wendi Hammond was named America East Co-Pitcher of the Week, on Tuesday. The award comes after a stellar weekend on the mound for Hammond, as a part of a 3-1 weekend for UAlbany softball. The Chemung native led the Great Danes at the UMBC Spring Invite, tossing 2 complete games with no runs earned. Hammond opened the weekend with a complete game shutout against Niagara, on Friday. The local native followed up with a no-hitter against Wisconsin on Saturday, striking out 3.

In her 5th year with UAlbany, Hammond has a 2.71 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 6 wins. The Great Danes will look for their 10th win of the season, when they begin a road series against UMass-Lowell. The 1st pitch of the weekend slate is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
