Waverly boys basketball and Horseheads girls hoops each cruised to wins, at Sunday’s Section IV Championships in Binghamton. Waverly opened the day of action at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, defeating Lansing for the Class B crown. The dominant 71-45 victory, gave the Wolverines their 1st section title since 1996. Prior to Sunday, Waverly fell in the tournament final twice (1997 and 2017), after winning 28 years ago. The Wolverines win was led by a high scoring attack from standouts Joey Tomasso and Xavier Watson. Tomasso netted 22 points, while Watson added 21.

With the win, Waverly will now head to the NYSPHSAA Regional Final on Sunday, March 10th. The Wolverines will return to the Visions FCU Arena to battle Section 3’s Marcellus at 1:45 p.m.
