Watertown City School District hires new assistant superintendent

May 8—WATERTOWN — The Watertown City School District announced a new assistant superintendent for operations and finance on Wednesday.

Brianne Durham will serve in the position beginning July 8.

Durham is a Jefferson Community College graduate and received her Bachelor of Science in business administration from SUNY Oswego. She then earned her master's degree at Columbia College.

She began her career at Poulsen & Podvin, CPA, for 15 years before taking a job at Alexandria Central School, where she was the business administrator for 10 years. While working at Alexandria, she played a role in the transition to scratch-made meals, introducing electric buses, establishing a joint fueling station and the completion of a $6.5 million gym expansion project.

"We are thrilled to welcome Brianne Durham to our leadership team," Superintendent Larry C. Schmiegel said in a news release. "Her extensive experience and proven track record of financial stewardship and operational efficiency will be invaluable assets to our district as we continue to prioritize the needs of our students and community."

Durham will oversee the district's financial operations and strategic planning initiatives.

"I am honored to join the Watertown City School District and contribute to its ongoing success," Durham said in the release. "I am eager to collaborate with the talented team here to enhance financial transparency, accountability, and sustainability, ultimately supporting the district's mission of providing high-quality education for all students."
