Waterloo Road star Priyasasha Kumari has reflected on her departure from the soap.

The actress, who played Samia Choudhry on the first three series of the show's revival run, recently took to Instagram to confirm her exit as a series regular.

"Trying to fit a year and a half of highlights into 10 seconds was a challenge but we got there," she wrote, alongside a Reel of her time on the show.

"Filming 3 seasons of this show was a dream and I'm truly grateful for the wonderful people I've met and worked with along the way.

"The role of Samia was such an honour in so many ways but most of all she was a character I needed to see on tv when I was just a lil Indian girl with dreams and now... I'm proud I can be that character for all my fellow Asians."

Kumari concluded: "Stay in school kids, work hard and believe you can achieve anything and everything. @waterlooroad will always have a special place in my heart. You know how it goes... as one chapter ends another begins..."

Following the conclusion of season 13 earlier this week (February 26), Waterloo Road unveiled its student cast for the next series. Kumari was notably not listed, and neither was co-star Adam Ali, who plays Kai Sharif.

A Waterloo Road insider has since teased to Digital Spy that viewers have not seen the last of the students, saying: "Kai and Samia's Waterloo Road journey may have come to an end as pupils, but their story continues into series 14."

In other cast news, comedian Jason Manford will join the school drama as Steve Savage, a new headteacher said to have a big impact on the students.

"What an absolute treat it is to join the cast and crew of Waterloo Road, right here in my home city of Manchester," he said. "It's such a brilliant, iconic show, so I'm dead proud to now be part of its history."

Waterloo Road airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Season 14 is expected to air later this year.
