Water services cut off after car lands on hydrant in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Springfield’s City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) announced that water services are interrupted for around 100 customers after a car crashed and landed on top of a hydrant on Tuesday.

Homes and businesses around the Irisdale subdivision are currently affected by the issue. CWLP said the accident near Laverna and St. James Roads led to a drop in water pressure, and now services must shut off completely for repairs. Officials said they may also need to repair the area’s water main.

Water services will remain cut off until the repairs are completed, CWLP said.

As work is done on the issue, officials ask drivers to use alternative routes. If drivers must go through the area, they should slow down and remain vigilant of construction zones and crews.

Questions can be directed to Water Dispatch at 217-789-2323 ext. 2. For work status updates, see CWLP’s Facebook and X (Twitter) pages.
