Water safe to drink again after main break led to boil water advisory in Newport

The boil water advisory for some Veolia Water customers in Newport has been lifted, the company said Wednesday. The advisory, issued Tuesday, came after a main break on North Mary Street. The break led to a loss of positive water pressure, which may have allowed contaminants to enter through back-flow.

Veolia, in conjunction with the state's Office of Drinking Water, has since tested the water and confirmed that it meets safe drinking water standards. Residents in the affected area can now drink or use tap water without boiling it first.
