If you haven't quite recognised the brilliance of The Weeknd's new single 'Starboy' yet, we're pretty certain the accompanying music video will help you get there.

In what is quite possibly the most awesomely dark image reboot to ever have been deployed, the Canadian star murders his former self in the slick visual.

After removing his balaclava and revealing his new hairdo, the singer sets to work on destroying all his former achievements he amassed with his last album Beauty Behind the Madness, using a red neon crucifix.

Something tells us this is him getting rid of the popstar he became with his massive breakthrough hits.

It's all completely insane, but so so good. Well done The Weeknd.

Oh and Daft Punk even make an appearance too, hanging on the wall in a rather stately portrait.

'Starboy' is the first single to be lifted from The Weeknd's new album of the same name. The collection will be released worldwide on November 25.

Starboy will be the follow-up to last year's Beauty Behind the Madness, which sold over 2 million copies and spawned the chart-topper 'Can't Feel My Face'.

That success propelled him to become the Billboard Music Awards 2016's biggest winner, as he took home a massive eight gongs in total.

He also made headlines over the summer for pulling out of a scheduled Jimmy Kimmel Live over objections to being featured on the same episode as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
