Watch trailer for Kristen Stewart's directing debut, 'Come Swim'

Ever felt underwater even though you’re standing on dry land? That’s the sensation that Kristen Stewart seeks to create in her directorial debut, Come Swim. Premiering this Friday as part of Refinery29’s Shatterbox streaming series — which is premiering 12 short films helmed by 12 female directors the 17-minute film stars Josh Kaye as an outwardly ordinary guy who is mentally drowning in impressionistic imaginings. Yahoo Entertainment is premiering the first official trailer for Come Swim, which debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival before going on to screen at Cannes as well. Speaking with The Guardian in May, the Personal Shopper star said that Come Swim emerged from a recurring image she had of a person contentedly sleeping at the bottom of the ocean floor. “I thought, ‘Wow, that’s pretty dark.’ You want to know the situation that would put someone so deep.” Her behind-the-scenes collaborators include cinematographer John Guleserian — who served as director of photography on the 2015 feature, Equals, starring Stewart and Nicholas Hoult — and musician St. Vincent, who composed the evocative soundtrack. Based on Come Swim, we’re looking forward to seeing Stewart dive into the world of feature filmmaking.

Come Swim premieres on Refinery29 on Friday.
