How to watch the Phoenix Suns’ second-round NBA Playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks?

On absolute pins and needles. Game 7s are great in any sport — unless your team is playing in them. And the way the Mavericks whipped the Suns 113-86 Thursday, you can’t help but worry. Then again, the home team has been dominant this series, and the game is at Footprint Center in Phoenix Sunday. No guarantee of anything, but better than being back in Dallas.

And, as ever, watch with a concerned eye on Devin Booker — or, if you’re a Mavs fan, on Luka Dončić. Both players are absolute superstars, and both missed three games in their teams’ first-round series. Things could get real tricky real fast if either one of them tweaks anything, or worse.

And truly, no matter which team you’re pulling for, you don’t want to see either of them out. It’s unlikely anyone from the Suns or the Mavericks would do it, but you don’t want to leave the possibility open for an Anthony Davis sort of “If I’d been playing we would have won” boast.

(Umm, but you weren’t.)

Suns-Mavericks tipoff for Game 7 in Phoenix Sunday is 5 p.m.

Game 7 is Sunday, with the outcome of the Milwaukee-Boston game determining the time. (No more regional coverage from Bally Sports Arizona after Round 1.)

Of course, the games will be broadcast on Arizona Sports 98.7, and the great Al McCoy will be calling the home games.

The Suns’ series against the New Orleans Pelicans was thrilling — a little more thrilling than Phoenix fans hoped.

“What a six-game series, remarkable in every way!” TNT broadcaster Kevin Harlan proclaimed as it ended.

Happily for the Suns and their fans, Chris Paul was the one who was really remarkable. His performance in Game 6 that clinched the series for the Suns was otherworldly, the greatest shooting performance in NBA Playoff history, going 14-for-14 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

“HE HAS GONE MAD!” Harlan screamed at one point. Harlan is not shy about letting his feelings be known, but in this case it was definitely worth it. Other nuggets Harlan dropped about Paul’s performance Thursday:

“CHRIS PAUL IS A FLAMETHROWER!”

“10 of 10! HE CANNOT BE STOPPED!”

Chris Paul and Devin Booker are great. But so is Luka Dončić

The Suns can’t depend on Paul’s heroics forever — Booker was back for Game 6 and played well, if not explosively — but dang he’s good at taking over a game. For all the top-volume hyperbole Harlan was dishing out Thursday, he wasn’t wrong about the Paul cannot be stopped bit.

Sometimes that applies to Dončić as well. He’s just a remarkable player, which is a kind of old-school adjective that makes it perfect to describe him.

Seriously, Dončić is a hero to all who are not built like statues — which is most of us. He doesn’t look like an elite player. In fact, Dončić looks like a heap you’d find slogging around at a lunchtime YMCA game who turns out to be Larry Bird’s cousin or something.

He’s great.

This is going to be a tough series for the Suns. As it should be — the Suns had the best regular-season record in the NBA, but this year the playoffs really feel wide open. Booker staying healthy is of course key to any success. Deandre Ayton has played really well — and he will have to continue to.

I’m honor-bound to continue propping up Cam Johnson as my favorite Sun, but I think once you get past Booker and Paul, Mikal Bridges is the most fun to watch.

Which is what we’ll do. Watch, watch and watch. Round 1 was pretty great. Round 2 should be even better.

And more nerve-wracking. Here we go.
