Watch: Shaun White hints toward PyeongChang strategy
It took Shaun White until his final run to qualify for his fourth appearance in the Olympics, and he did so with a perfect score of 100.
The journey leading up to earning his spot on the U.S. Snowboard Team wasn’t easy.
“Now that we’re this close to the finish line, I just have to stop and think about how amazing this trip was to get here,” White said. “The season has all sorts of ups and downs, but through the thick of it, I feel like everything’s happened for a reason.”
Episode 8 of SnowPack: Shaun White and the U.S. Snowboard Team shows White reflecting back on his journey to South Korea and looking ahead at what’s to come.
“I think something that I’ve learned from this season would have to be the ability to enjoy the little things more: being with my friends and all having this common goal in mind,” he said.
White opened his Olympic-clinching run with a frontside double cork 1440, a trick resembling the one that put him in intensive care back in October. Three months later, he nailed the trick to kick off his perfect run and seal a spot on Team USA.
In PyeongChang, he could unveil a brand new combination.
“This time around, I’ve got a good idea of what I want to do, but I haven’t really finalized it yet,” he said. “I’d say go frontside double 14 into cab double 14. I’m pretty excited about it. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now.”
