WATCH: Puppy chases car after being abandoned in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A dog has been rescued following a heart-breaking video shared with our station which shows a dog chasing a car after it was seemingly abandoned at a mobile home park in Fresno.

The incident happened on Thursday, April 25, at the Country Living Mobile Home Park in Fresno.

Rudy Pina, an animal resource officer with the Fresno Animal Center, says the dispatch team was contacted by management from the mobile home park after they said they witnessed someone dump a puppy out of a car on their property.

Surveillance video shows the approximately three-month-old puppy apparently being dumped out of a vehicle. The video then shows the puppy standing still, confused, before running and desperately trying to catch up to the car.

Pina says management at the mobile home park was able to safely capture the dog and hold onto him until animal control officers were able to pick her up.

“Luckily the mobile park management was very adamant about securing the dog on their own, which we’re very thankful for and which was able to have a great outcome for the animal,” said Pina.

According to him, this is not an uncommon occurrence.

“Unfortunately, our animal control department responds to animal abandonment calls every single week in the city of Fresno. I worked many years at the county of Fresno for Fresno Humane Animal Services as well and unfortunately, the county is dealing with the same epidemic.”

He says he hopes more awareness is brought to this issue. According to Pina, anyone who willingly abandons an animal is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $1,000 and six months in jail per PC597.

Pina adds that a police report has been filed and the incident is being investigated.
