TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Police released video on Monday showing the moment shots were fired in SoHo early Mother’s Day morning, leaving two people dead and another injured.

The video starts with three police cars moving through an intersection and moving up the road, past two shopping plazas. About 30 seconds later, dozens of shots can be heard, sending people running.

The video switches to an officer’s body cam.

“Shots fired! Shots fired!” the officer is heard yelling. “Over here near Jimmy Johns.”

Man suspected of abducting Tampa mother & daughter shot himself during negotiations, police say

The video ends with more officers arriving at the shopping plaza.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a “dispute between two rival neighborhood groups” and was not random.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said there were three officers in the parking lot when the shooting happened.

Kenneth Washington, 28, and Kevon Christmas, 23, were both killed in the shooting, according to police. A third person was shot in the leg.

“These senseless acts of violence that occurred this morning happened in an area that was busy,” State Attorney Suzy Lopez said, vowing to prosecute anyone responsible to the fullest extent of the law. “There were lots of people here. There were also lots of Tampa police officers here.”

Bercaw said he’s meeting with residents and businesses on Monday afternoon to address any concerns.

Mayor Jane Castor released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding the recent gun violence.

“Recent gun violence has understandably shaken our community,” she said. “Although we remain one of the safest cities our size in the country, we are not immune to the growing number of disagreements that are being handled with a firearm. The [Tampa Police Department] team will continue to work alongside residents to reduce violent crime and, while these crimes have not been random, we must all do what we can to keep Tampa safe.”

Anyone with video of the shooting are asked to call Tampa police at 813-231-6130 or Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-8477.
