WATCH: Officers render life-saving aid to motorcyclist in Miami Twp.

Officers saved a man’s life after he crashed his motorcycle on Mother’s Day, his family said.

News Center 7 obtained body camera footage that shows officers jumping into action.

Sunday at around 4:20 p.m. Ohio State Highway Patrol and Miami Township officers were called to the intersection of state Route 725 and Kingsridge Rive to reports of a four-vehicle crash.

Body camera footage shows Miami Township officers arriving on the scene they found a motorcyclist in the grass with the rider, Derrik Wagerman, not far away.

“He was flown about 15 to 20 feet,” Jill O’Donnell, a family member of Wagerman said.

She said she is grateful for the police officers who helped as Wagerman was yelling in pain from an open knee fracture.

The video shows Officer Liam Foley and Officer Ian Dalton help stop the bleeding by applying a tourniquet and an emergency bandage.

They also helped put a neck brace on Wagerman to get him to Kettering Health.

“He’s making improvements. He is out of the ICU now,” O’Donnell said.

She said Wagerman will be in a neck brace for at least six weeks and has a fracture in his cervical area and his scapula.

Despite his injuries, O’Donnell said his spirits have not been broken.

“He’s got a great outlook he’s cracking jokes with the nurses,” she said.

Knowing there are officers like Foley and Dalton who helped her family is what she can be thankful for.

“You don’t realize what these guys go through every day, what they see every day, how their knowledge and how quickly they react just saves people’s lives crazy,” O’Donnell said.

Tuesday afternoon Miami Township Police posted a picture of O’Donnell and her daughter giving gifts to Officer Dalton to thank him.
