What to watch on NBC this summer before the Olympics begin

(WCMH) — NBC is pairing its summer entertainment programming to complement its coverage of the Paris Olympic Games.

Calling itself the “official home of competition and games” the network announced it is bringing back new seasons of “America’s Got Talent” and “American Ninja Warrior” alongside game shows “Password,” “The Wall” and “Weakest Link,” according to a news release.

Returning to Season 19 of “America’s Got Talent” will be Executive producer Simon Cowell alongside judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara. Terry Crews will host. The live shows will begin Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium with the results airing on Wednesday nights.

Leading up to the premiere of the 16th season of “American Ninja Warrior,” on May 27, NBC will air two new “Ninja Warrior” specials including a women’s championship on May 12 at 8 p.m. and a couples’ championship on May 27 at 8 p.m. Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabiamila will host the show along with co-host Zuri Hall.

New instalments of “Password” will showcase celebrity guests including Lauren Graham, Howie Mandel, Wiz Khalifa, Johnny Knoxville, Joel McHale, Meghan Trainor, Lindsey Vonn and Roy Wood Jr. The show’s format will feature Jimmy Fallon as a recurring player paired with a contestant competing against a celebrity guest/contestant duo for cash prizes by guessing a secret password using one-word clues. Host Keke Palmer, who won an Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Game Show, will “command the podium,” according to NBC.

Both Jane Lynch and Chris Hardwick will return to hosting duties for “Weakest Link” and “The Wall,” respectively.

Coverage of the Olympics will consist of at least nine hours of programming each day. In a first for the Summer Games, Peacock will stream every sport and event, including all 329 medal events.
