Watch Gigi Hadid Impersonate Melania Trump

Gigi Hadid made her debut as an awards show host on Sunday. The model was the MC at the American Music Awards, and her opening monologue with co-host Jay Pharoah tested her comedy skills. The two took the opportunity to make light of the recent election.

The model told the audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles that the AMAs are decided by the fans’ votes. “Don’t worry guys, tonight we do not have to deal with the electoral college,” Hadid joked.

“Listen, we’re not gonna talk about all that because tonight, it’s all about the music,” Pharoah added. They might not be talking about the electoral college, but the hosts both poked fun at President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

Hadid brought out her best impression of Melania Trump and referenced the future first lady’s plagiarism scandal. “I love my husband, President Barack Obama, and our children, Sasha and Malia,” Hadid said with a fake accent. Watch her impersonation below:

Jay Pharoah did his own Trump impression later in the opening. It’s likely to be the first of many political references made on the American Music Awards.

The 2016 AMAs are airing on ABC. Find out how to watch the event HERE.
