Watch Giant Robots from the US and Japan Fight to The Scrap Metal
Two giant robots, each weighing thousands of pounds, will flight to the scrap metal on Tuesday night for the honor of the U.S. and Japan.
The world’s first giant robot fight, which airs at 10 p.m. Eastern on Twitch, is the culmination of months of engineering and trash talk.
It started two years ago when engineers at robotics company MegaBots, Inc. finished building the U.S.’ first giant piloted robot. In typical American fashion, they decided to put their robot to the test against the another giant piloted robot to prove their American-made one is the best. Here’s their video challenge to the Japanese:
The robotics company in Japan, called Suidobashi Heavy Industries, accepted the challenge. The Japanese engineers’ only stipulation was that the robots fight in “melee combat” — essentially, an all-out brawl. The man who designed Japan’s robot, Kogoro Kurata, promised the Americans his team would “punch them to scrap and knock them down to do it.” Here’s the Japan response video:
These robots stand around 15 feet tall, weigh a dozen tons, and can throw objects at 130 mph. If you didn’t watch the videos above: there will be actual humans inside of these huge steel machines while they fight in robot hand-to-robot hand combat.
Unfortunately the duel is not live. The fight took place over several days in Japan to give teams needed time between rounds to make repairs to their robots. Not pumped up yet? Don’t worry, this trailer will help:
