Deputies escort wayward seal back to ocean

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Deputies on Monday morning had to escort a curious seal back into the water after it made it onto the boardwalk in Imperial Beach.

FOX 5 caught the cute seal on video waddling a tad too far from its home.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department used small boards to guide the four-legged sea animal back into the ocean.

Arizona drowning victim identified as La Mesa woman

In November, a baby sea lion attempted to cross state Route 75 near Leyte Road, a portion of highway that connects Coronado to Imperial Beach, when some onlookers stopped to help the baby animal cross the road.

Another sea lion made national headlines in Jan. 2022 after ending up four miles from the coast on the eastbound state Route 94. When SeaWorld’s rescue team arrived, he had nearly reached the Interstate 805.

To report a sick, injured, entangled, or stranded live animal in San Diego County, NOAA advises to contact SeaWorld of California. Contact NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center to report a dead marine animal.
