WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A man in handcuffs was caught on video running away from a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) on Tuesday.

In a police report, MPD said that an officer was responding to a possible robbery at the Sala Thai Restaurant on C Street SE. The officer saw a man being detained by an employee and a customer.

The person who made the call told the officer that the man had entered the restaurant to use the restroom. When he left, he saw a key sticking out of the cash register. He opened it and took $20. MPD said that the man returned the money after he was detained.

Officers handcuffed the man, but he broke free and ran away. A Special Police Officer detained him again after he escaped into the Stadium-Armory Metro station.

The police report said that the man had an outstanding robbery warrant from the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office. He was arrested for theft and for running away.
