Video: Los Angeles' New Sky Slide
If you’ve been considering a visit to Los Angeles for a chance to ride down the Sky Slide, you might want to check out this video first. While the Sky Slide isn’t open to the public until June 25, a few brave souls got an early jump on the thrill ride, which sends riders from the 70th to the 69th floor while suspended 1,000 feet in the air over downtown Los Angeles.
A new video posted by Sterling Davis on YouTube, shows the see-through slide in action. The glass slide juts out of the side of the 70th floor of the U.S. Bank Tower, which is currently Los Angeles’s tallest building, and riders slide in a glass tube for over 36 feet. (Those screams you hear in the video, echoing across the skyscrapers, are surely screams of delight, right?)
The Sky Slide was installed on the skyscraper via helicopter back in March. At the time, Steel City Glass, Inc. President John Colosimo told local ABC News affiliate ABC 7, “Before we brought that thing out here, we loaded it with 10,000 pounds of sand and hung it for an hour. It’s pretty robust. I don’t see it coming apart.” Keep that in mind as you catapult between floors protected solely by a reported 4-inch thick piece of glass.
When the Sky Slide opens to the public, it will cost brave souls between $19 and $59 for individual adults and around $8 for kids. The slide is part of the new "OUE Skyspace," which LAist reported is a streamlined observation deck suspended on the side of the tower. You can find tickets to both the deck and the Sky Slide here.
