Watch a BMW M2 Annihilate A Ford Mustang GT in a Drag Race
American cars are known for their big V8 engines, monstrous power, and impeccable straight line speed. The Mustang GT is one of those cars. Equipped with a 5.0L V8 that makes 435 all-American horsepower, it is the pinnacle of modern American motoring.
Then why did a BMW M2 just wipe the floor with this Mustang in EVO's latest Drag Battle? One reason could be the weight. The M2 weighs about 200 pounds less than the heavy brute, so it should be able to move itself down the line easier. That's only part of the story, however.
Mentioning power numbers doesn't really make sense, since the BMW pushes out 365 horsepower from its turbocharged inline 3.0L straight six-70 less horses than the Mustang. The real reason the BMW won? Traction.
The BMW is equipped with a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission, which comes with an awesome feature called launch control. Upon launch, the car's computers modulate the throttle to provide optimal traction, and the ultra-fast gear changes allow the car to go as fast as possible without having to rely on the driver. The Mustang also has a launch control which modulates the throttle, but the driver still has to make due with the slower manual 'box down the line.
By the time the Mustang can get all of its power down, the BMW is crossing the finish line. Just watch for yourself.
