Watch: The best musical tributes to Prince, from Minneapolis to Broadway

Prince fans around the world mourned the iconic pop star’s death with a variety of tributes Thursday, but perhaps most moving were the seemingly spontaneous celebrations of the artist’s timeless music.

Jennifer Hudson led the cast of “The Color Purple” in a rousing rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain” onstage in New York City.

The cast of the Broadway hit “Hamilton” also paid tribute to the pop legend, closing Thursday night's show with a performance of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Meanwhile, in Brooklyn, hundreds of fans showed up to celebrate the beloved singer at an impromptu block party outside Spike Lee’s house, where the director was seen dancing to “Let’s Go Crazy.”

The biggest tribute of the night took place at Minneapolis’ First Avenue Club, the setting of Prince’s semiautobiographical film “Purple Rain.” Outside the club, thousands of fans sang in unison to the movie’s title track.
