PETERSBURG — Holden Minor Ringer is on a mission to walk from Washington State to Washington DC… and then some. Why, you ask: Advocacy for America Walks and walkability. The 26 year old said, "It seemed like a good goal to set."

"Seattle man" is functionally homeless. "Home is wherever Smiley is," Ringer said. Smiley is his adventurous partner, a stroller.

Today, February 29, is day 342 of Ringer's adventurous journey, and Virginia is the 14th state he has visited by foot. After his 27-mile day from McKenney, he plans to visit the unique Tombstone House on Youngs Road in Petersburg, a building constructed in 1934 from the bottom half of government-issued marble tombstones that previously topped the graves of Union soldiers in Poplar Lawn Cemetery.

This Social Butterfly plans to walk and talk with Ringer from the Tombstone House to Old Towne. Can you imagine the tales he'll tell? I'm excited! I plan to show him historic sites, the galleries at Petersburg Area Art League and introduce him to locals, possibly even Mayor Sam Parham.

Bill Nicholson and Dale and Linda Pittman have offered to sponsor Ringer's stay at the Pittman's historic inn, Strawberry Hill, on Hinton Street. He will dine at The Brickhouse Run in Old Towne courtesy of Nicholson and Drew and Johanna Phelan, the pub's owners.

Ringer plans to walk to Richmond Friday morning. If you spot him, feel free to say hello, but please do not honk. I plan to write about my short trek with "Seattle man" as well as his quest in a future Social Butterfly column.Follow his journey @walk2washington on Instagram and Facebook or visit walk2washington.com.
