Washington airports have record year of travel
WASHINGTON (AP) — Two airports that serve the Washington region have released their passenger travel statistics for 2012.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport, says 19.7 million passengers traveled through National and 22.6 million people traveled through Dulles in 2012.
National's numbers represent an increase of 4.4 percent in passenger traffic over the previous year. They're also a record high for the airport, surpassing the 18.8 million passengers who traveled through the airport in 2011. Fewer passengers, however, traveled through Dulles than in 2011. Travel through Dulles was down 2.8 percent.
Officials presented the numbers during a meeting Wednesday.
