Wasco Police Department to take lead role in law enforcement in Wasco beginning April 18

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — After more than four decades of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office on patrol in Wasco, officers with the Wasco Police Department will take over as the city’s lead law enforcement agency beginning Thursday.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said it will no longer be providing law enforcement services within the Wasco city limits. Wasco police will officially begin law enforcement duties beginning at 11 a.m. on April 18, the sheriff’s office said.

Wasco police chief begins plans for city police department

The department will operate out of the KCSO Wasco Substation at 748 F St. in Wasco. The department’s main line for dispatchers will be 661-758-7266.

Sheriff’s office officials said KCSO will be the main point of contact for all open cases before April 18, 2024. For information on active Kern County Sheriff’s Office investigations in Wasco call KCSO at 661-391-7500.

The City of Wasco voted to reestablish its police department in 2022. Charlie Fivecoat is the department’s police chief.
