Warrior Run project bid awarded

May 21—TURBOTVILLE — The Warrior Run School Board at Monday night's meeting approved a $48,700 bid by T-Ross Brothers Construction Inc. for junior/senior high school corridor upgrades.

The T-Ross bid was the only bid submitted to the board, said District Business Manager Tyler Potts. Funds for this project will come from the Capital Reserve Fund.

The upgrade is to the lockers and other improvements at the schools. Marotta/Main Architects are the architects for the upgrade which will occur in sequential phases.

The board also approved the contract with CSIU for The Writing Revolution program for $5,700.

The Writing Revolution is a methodology that enables educators to teach writing skills and content simultaneously. According to the program, there's no separate writing class and no separate writing curriculum. Instead, teachers of all subjects adapt the strategies and activities to preexisting curriculum and weave them into their content instruction.

Warrior Run educators will be working with CSIU to utilize the program as a tool to help students.

In other action items, board directors authorized district Superintendent Thor Edmiston to apply for a $5 million Public School Facility Improvement Grant, which would go toward renovations to the junior/senior high school, said district Business Manager Tyler Potts. Funding for that project will come from the capital reserve fund, Potts said.

Salaries were approved at the meeting as well: Sarahjane Depp-Hutchinson, elementary physical education teacher, $59,745, effective 2024-2025 school year; Alyssa Kline, fourth-grade teacher, $54,245, effective 2024-2025 school year; and Lindsay Gale, second-grade teacher, $59,745, effective 2024-2025 school year.

The board then recognized five retiring district employees who have a combined 128 years of experience: Gregory Alico, director of technology; Penny Price, third-grade teacher; Patti Kasel, sixth-grade English language arts and social studies teacher; Tina Clemens, head custodian; and Mark Blackwell, lead maintenance.

Three individuals resigned: Maria Nagle, paraprofessional, effective May 31, 2024; Emily Howell, high school Spanish teacher, effective June 19, 2024; and Rachael Herb, girls varsity basketball coach, effective immediately.
