Warrant issued for man accused of 7th DWI, crash in Farmington

FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) – Police are looking for a man who was arrested earlier this month in Farmington for his seventh DWI. Bodycam footage showed the wreckage that was left all over the road.

Alfonso Tohtsonie came to the San Juan Regional Medical Center on May 6 after multiple people told police a car barreled through a red light in Farmington. According to the criminal complaint, Tohtsonie hit a car and caused minor injuries to the driver. However, his car overturned on the road. It injured his passenger, who was taken to the hospital and cleared.

First responders were concerned Tohtsonie might have been injured too, but there was another reason they took him to the hospital – the scent and presence of alcohol.

Medical staff checked Tohtsonie out and cleared him. After that, officers stepped in to talk with the man and told him he was under arrest. This was his seventh arrest for drunk driving with two prior convictions coming from Arizona. The other four were in New Mexico.

Tohtsonie was put on conditions of release two days later, but he never reported to pretrial services, and his whereabouts are unknown. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
