Warming Up This Week, But Storms, Cooldown Coming

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan broke a record-high daily (May 5th) temperature today, and more heat is on the way this week.

Dothan hit 92° this afternoon, breaking the old daily record of 91° set in 2022. After that record-breaking temperature, temperatures will be slow to cool down tonight, only making it to the mid to upper 60s.

The same general pattern will continue for the rest of the work week.

Highs will be in the low 90s through Thursday. By Tuesday, lows will reach the low 70s. But, there is some relief coming soon.

Between late Thursday and early Friday, a cold front will approach the area. With it, showers and storms are likely.

Model runs show there being sufficient instability, wind shear, and moisture in place as this front moves through. We will be watching for the possibility of strong to severe storms during this time frame.

After the cold front moves through, temperatures should drop quickly. Highs on Friday will be back in the 80s. They will be in the upper 70s on the weekend. Lows this weekend will be in the low 60s, and maybe even upper 50s.
