Warmest weather so far this year on the way this weekend

After some much needed rain fell across parts of New Mexico Thursday, drier and warmer weather has returned today. Hotter weather is on the way this weekend.

Much drier and warmer weather has returned to New Mexico Friday. Temperatures this afternoon are anywhere from a couple degrees to nearly 30° warmer than Thursday. Skies are mostly sunny across the state. A couple isolated showers and thunderstorms have tried to develop along the east slopes of the Sangre de Cristo and Sacramento Mountains this afternoon, but these do not last very long. Skies will be clearing tonight and low temperatures will be warmer Saturday morning.

A very warm and even hot weekend is on the way. Saturday will be the quietest day this weekend as highs climb well above average for this time of year. Sunday will be the hottest day though as temperatures will be some of the warmest so far this year. Parts of southeast New Mexico will even make it into the triple-digits starting Sunday, with the Albuquerque Metro inching close to 90°. The downside is winds start picking up Sunday afternoon, gusting to as high as 40 mph.

Windier weather is on the way next Monday and Tuesday, when some areas could see 50 mph. A dry cold front will move in as well, cooling temperatures off only slightly into the middle of next week. It will still be a warm and dry rest of the week, with breezy to locally windy conditions each afternoon.
