A 35-year-old Kyiv resident has received a one-year restricted liberty sentence, with a one-year probationary period, for setting off fireworks from his apartment in the Holosiiv district during wartime, the City Prosecutor's Office announced on Telegram on April 3.

The incident, which occurred on March 6, involved four fireworks explosions and violated martial law restrictions on pyrotechnics use. The man's actions caused panic among neighbors, who feared an attack by Russian forces.

The individual acknowledged his wrongdoing and expressed regret for his actions.

The court convicted him of hooliganism under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, resulting in his restricted liberty sentence accompanied by probation.

In Ukraine, the sale and use of pyrotechnics is prohibited, and the firing of salutes, firecrackers and fireworks during martial law is both illegal and punishable by law.
