Want to see 2022 Big Slick celebrities in Kansas City? Here’s what you need to know

After the pandemic forced it to go online-only two years in a row, Big Slick Celebrity Weekend is back, with events June 24 and 25.

The big news now: Co-host Jason Sudeikis will not appear because of a schedule change in the filming of his Emmy-winning TV series “Ted Lasso” in London, organizers announced Tuesday.

No word yet on whether he will make a virtual appearance. Sudeikis has been a regular host since Big Slick began in 2010.

Here’s what else you need to know:

The basics

Without Sudeikis, hometown stars Paul Rudd, Eric Stonestreet, Rob Riggle and David Koechner are scheduled to host about 30 famous guests. Since 2010, back when it was a just a poker tournament, Big Slick has raised more than $13 million to benefit the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy hospital. The softball game

The Big Slick Celebrity Classic softball game starts at 5 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Kauffman Stadium. Anyone who buys a ticket to the Kansas City Royals game that night against the Oakland A’s can watch softball for free. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.

A couple of ticket notes: Seating for the softball game is open, so even if your Royals tickets are for the nosebleed sections, you can move down to watch the celebrities up close. And if you buy Royals tickets through bigslickkc.org, the Royals will donate a portion to the charity.

Big Slick Party & Show

The weekend’s centerpiece starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the T-Mobile Center downtown. Tickets range from $75 for standard lower level to $250-$375 for upgraded seats with Founder’s Club access, including drink tickets or open bar. See bigslickkc.org or T-MobileCenter.com.

In between the comedy and musical performances that night, people can try to outbid each other on a slate of auction items. Previous big-ticket items included a visit to the set of one of Rudd’s Ant-Man movies and a dinner with Kansas City Chiefs stars.

Note: Organizers decided this year not to hold the annual Saturday morning bowling tournament and red carpet arrival.

Online auction

Organizers kicked off an online auction of items with Hollywood flair on Tuesday. Up for grabs is “Drinks with Norm” at Boulevard Brewing Company. Norm is actor George Wendt, who played Norm on “Cheers.” He’s also Sudeikis’ uncle.

Other auction items include lunch with “Shadowhunters” star Katherine McNamara of Lee’s Summit, who will also appear at events; cocktails and karaoke with former Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt; a meet-and-greet with musician David Cook of Blue Springs, also scheduled to appear; and tickets to several talk shows, including Kelly Clarkson, Drew Barrymore, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “The Daily Show.”
