Want live fishing bait at your door? Georgia Walmart stores will now deliver it

Fishers in Middle Georgia can now order live bait through Walmart and have it delivered to their door, the company announced Wednesday, becoming the first retail store in the U.S. to offer this service.

Georgia is in the top 10 states to fish, according to FishingBooker.

This service will be available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. in 154 stores in Georgia, which the company said is about 80% of its stores in the state.

“With warmer weather upon us, we are confident the convenience of our live bait pickup and delivery will be a true game-changer, helping our customers reel ‘em in from Lake Allatoona to Waters Creek and beyond,” said Alicia Anger, director of global communications for Walmart.

Fishers can order live bait online or through the Walmart App, and it will be available for both pickup and delivery. Depending on the method buyers choose, their orders can be sent directly to a fishing dock, as long as it’s a deliverable address, in under 90 minutes.

The delivery options include standard, on-demand and express delivery. The “Standard” option will deliver your package in a designated window. The “On-Demand” option will get buyers their live bait within a three-hour window from a driver in the Spark Driver platform. That one costs $7.95 to $9.95. The “Express” option will get the live bait delivered between 30 and 90 minutes for an additional $10.

The on-demand and express delivery options are free for Walmart+ members.

The delivery will be handled by store associates who will pick and place the live bait of choice in anti-contamination bags — similar to bagging meats and produce.

Walmart’s online shop showed a handful of live bait options were already available for same-day delivery in Middle Georgia on Wednesday.
