‘We want justice for JD’: Suspect accused of helping toddler’s killer still on the run a month later
LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — “He just loved everything. He was such a good baby,” Yeisdelis Baez said Tuesday.
Baez said her nephew, 3-year-old Jaquez “JD” Norton, loved motorcycles, cars and dinosaurs, and that his loss will hurt her family’s hearts forever.
“We can’t bring JD back, but at least we’ll have justice for him, you know?” she said. “We want justice for JD and he is still out there and he was involved in his death.”
No bond for suspect in shooting that killed Lakeland 3-year-old
Baez and her family are eagerly awaiting the arrest of Demarius Wilson, the last named suspect in the March 11 shooting that took JD’s life outside the Cambridge Cove Apartments in Lakeland.
“We just want our voice to be heard since it’s been over a month already, and he’s still not found. I don’t know why it’s taking so long,” said Baez.
Lakeland police said Norton was in the backseat of a car with his family when men pulled up and started shooting.
Norton was killed, as well as one of the suspects, Kemarius WIlson, who, police said, was hit by a bullet from his accomplice’s gun.
That alleged accomplice, Kevarius Green, turned himself in on several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.
Demarius Wilson, Kemarius Wilson’s twin brother, remains at large. Investigators believe he was the driver.
“We know at one point, he was driving the car. We feel like he was driving it during the shoot as well,” said Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor.
Chief Taylor said some of Wilson’s family members have been “somewhat helpful.”
Wilson has ties to Lakeland, Plant City and Orlando.

Chief Taylor said Wilson is believed to still be in the area and considered to be armed and dangerous.
“If you’re helping him, you’re going to find yourself arrested as well. You’re going to find yourself put in jail so do not help him,” said Chief Taylor.

Police have not released details on a motive for the shooting.
