Waltham Has Electric Car Charge Stations Now

The green car and plug symbols just popped up at these two municipal lots.

WALTHAM, MA — Waltham is getting a bit greener this month. The city installed two electric car charging stations at both the Crescent Street and Walnut Street Parking lots the first week in Septemer, and they want folks to know about it.

There is no charge to use these, however, you will still need to pay the usual $1 for two hours of parking rate to park in both of these lots.

The stations are located at parking spaces 258 and 259 in the Crescent street lot and spaces 174 and 175 in the Walnut street lot. If you don't have an electric vehicle, don't even think about parking in those spots, according to the city. Any non-electric vehicle parked there are subject to a $50 fine. And watch the time, folks, they'll ticket cars that overstay the 2 hour mark.

In March the mayor proposed installing nine charging stations in municipal parking lots, including at two at the Central Sq. Parking Deck, one at Church St., two at Crescent St., two at Walnut St. and two on Chestnut St. The March proposal was estimated at about $22,000. The stations allow two vehicles to be charged simultaneously.
